Central Idea: By taking care of living things we learn to respect the world around us.
Lines of inquiry:
- Living things and non-living things (Form and Function)
-Taking care of living things (Responsibility)
We started our week discussing the characteristics of living things and non-living things. The children learned that they need to ask themselves these questions to check if something is a living or a non-living thing:
Does it eat?
Does it move?
Does it have babies?
Does it excrete waste (pee or poo)? (giggles and laughter whenever this is asked)
Does it have senses?
Does it grow?
Does it breathe?
If the answer is yes to all of these, then that something is a living thing and if the answer is no to any of these, then it is non-living thing.
Divya, (Inara's mom) came to class with Shiv, Inara's 5 month old baby brother and she shared with us how she takes care of Shiv and even showed us some of the things that Shiv needs to stay happy and healthy.
